AoBSO's Global Growth: A Leading Voice for British International Education

The Association of British Schools Overseas (AoBSO) is entering the 2025/26 academic year with unprecedented momentum, as more BSO schools than ever before choose to join the UK Government-recognised professional network for school leaders. Recent additions include the British International School Belgrade, The English College Dubai, Banana Island International School in Nigeria, and Junior & Senior School Nicosia in Cyprus, reflecting AoBSO’s growing presence across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

This surge in membership highlights the growing recognition of AoBSO as the only association exclusively serving the leaders of DfE-accredited British Schools Overseas. Schools that hold BSO status are choosing AoBSO not just for affiliation, but for the peer-to-peer leadership network, expert guidance, advocacy, and shared commitment to excellence that define the association’s work.

The growth is more than symbolic, it speaks to a wider movement among British international schools to align with DfE-recognised, Ofsted-assured standards, and to be part of a professional body that understands the distinct needs of leaders in British Schools Overseas. As the education landscape evolves, AoBSO continues to position itself at the heart of policy discussions, professional development, and quality enhancement for British international education worldwide.

With new schools joining each term and existing members playing an active role in collaborative leadership, AoBSO is more than a network, it is a movement. One rooted in trust, shared ambition, and a joint commitment to the highest possible standards in British international schools.
